The partnership with The AbleChild Trust and CCD began with a telephone conversation between the two charity directors. Prior to this contact The AbleChild Trust had researched the work of CCD in Thailand who provide rehabilitation for over 500 disabled children. The majority of these children have been abandoned or orphaned. A meeting was arranged in London resulting in an invitation for The AbleChild Trust to visit CCD in Thailand. This visit took place in June 2007. The AbleChild Trust visits ThailandThe Head Office of CCD is based at Rainbow House, Bangkok, Thailand. Rainbow House is a residential home for approximately 35 disabled children most of which are orphans. It also provides a day care centre for disabled children from the government orphanage. The Government OrphanageThe AbleChild Trust visited the government orphanage where there are approximately 2,000 disabled children ranging in age from new born babies to eighteen years old. Disabled Children In The CommunityThe AbleChild Trust visited a number of families in the community who have a disabled child/children living at home. We were able to visit and see first hand the conditions of extreme poverty these children are living in.
Our stay afforded us the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the various projects under CCD as well as meeting the staff. This enabled us to highlight areas we believed we could help the disabled children known to the organization. The first project we suggested and agreed was The AbleChild Playground which was desperately needed for the children of Rainbow House. The second project was to increase the physiotherapy help and fieldwork for the children in the community. This second project has been a major success. We were delighted when premises were provided by the local health authority in 2008 which enabled what is now called Community Based Rehabilitation 2 (CBR2) to open and flourish. There are now approxinmately 40 families that have signed up to this project and currently benefit from the help of the physiotherapists and field workers. The AbleChild Trust have been the main benefactor since the project began. We returned in January 2010 to see the project first hand. For further information about this project see children in the community. We will keep you informed of the success of our partnership with CCD. In order to be successful in developing our initiatives your donation will make a huge difference. |
